"and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace"
Ephesians 6:15
During the conference, Ken Rudolf spoke on the Armor of God as I have never heard before. It's usually used for kids, but this time it was a hard lesson for the adults. Among other parts, this section really got my attention as the word picture was just what I needed.
Back then, the soldiers' shoes actually had spikes in them. So when one army was charging toward them, they would plant their feet and extend the shield. They would not easily be moved when the attacker came at full force. If it weren't for the spikes, the soldier would be knocked off his slippery feet to the ground where his opponent would be sure to finish him off easily.
Sometimes it's not easy to feel at peace.

It's interesting to me that "Peace" is linked to a passage about war preparation. It is so true and applicable, though. Without resting in the Peace of God, the hope of the Gospel, the expectation that God is in complete control, I will be knocked off my feet when tough times come - and ultimately will loose that battle. It can even be a small thing like a change in my daily plans that will throw me off. If I have peace - a constant indwelling peace, I will stand easily when the bumps or mac trucks come through.
Peace. The unsuspected defense.
